Privacy Policy for PromptIQ
Last updated: September 13, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how PromptIQ collects, uses, and shares your data when you use the PromptIQ Chrome Extension and associated services.
1. What Data We Collect
To provide prompt optimization and scoring, PromptIQ collects the following data types:
- Prompt Text (Personal Communications): A PromptIQ account and express prompt-storage consent are required before the extension accesses a supported chat composer. Smart Template optimization itself runs locally and does not send prompt text to an AI provider. The latest revision of each prompt draft is saved to your account after a typing pause, including unsent drafts. When you deliberately choose cloud AI optimization, we also send that prompt through our serverless backend to OpenRouter and an eligible model provider. Google Gemini may be used as a service fallback.
- Website Content: After you sign in and enable required prompt storage, we read the active chat composer on supported AI platforms to calculate prompt quality and save its latest draft revision. We do not collect unrelated form fields, chat responses, page titles, or conversation URLs.
- Optional Saved Searches: If enabled in Dashboard > History, completed searches in PromptIQ's prompt library are saved with their category, result count, and time. This does not collect browser search history or searches made on other websites.
- User Activity Metadata: We collect metadata about optimization events (such as the AI platform name, the original score, the optimized score, and the time of the event) to populate your history logs and dashboard statistics.
- Account Information: An account is required to use the extension. We collect your email address and password authentication data. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes.
- Subscription Metadata: If you upgrade to Premium, Razorpay processes your payment and we store subscription status, plan, and Razorpay customer/subscription identifiers. PromptIQ does not receive or store your full card or bank account details.
- Product Analytics: We record limited first-party events such as extension installation, popup opening, completed account actions, checkout starts, and website-to-store clicks. These events do not include prompt text.
2. How Data Is Stored
- Local Storage: Your configuration settings (tier preferences) and a local cache of your history are stored on your device using IndexedDB and Chrome Storage Local APIs.
- Database Storage: Original and optimized prompts, scores, the latest revisions of active prompt drafts, and consent settings are synchronized to our Neon Postgres database through our HTTPS backend under your account. PromptIQ library searches are stored only when you separately enable that optional setting. The website's local demo remains on your device.
3. How Data Is Used
We use the collected data solely for the following purposes:
- To calculate your prompt scores in real-time.
- To perform user-requested cloud AI prompt optimizations, including Free account trials and Premium usage.
- To save and synchronize your optimization runs history so you can retrieve them in your extension popup.
- To save recent prompt drafts for account history and recovery.
- To operate the service, prevent abuse, and process user-requested feedback and subscriptions.
4. Data Sharing & Third Parties
- No Sale of Data: We do not sell, rent, or trade your data to third parties.
- Third-Party APIs: Cloud AI optimizations are processed through OpenRouter and an eligible model provider, with Google Gemini available as a fallback. The prompt text, selected AI platform, detected request category, and related optimization instructions are shared only to complete the requested optimization. We do not include your account email or password. OpenRouter requests require zero-data-retention endpoints and deny provider data collection; OpenRouter may retain operational metadata such as token counts and latency under its own terms.
- Payments: Paid subscriptions are processed by Razorpay. Razorpay receives the information needed to authorise and manage your subscription under its own privacy terms.
- Chrome Web Store Analytics: Google may provide aggregate Store listing traffic and installation analytics to PromptIQ through the Chrome Web Store developer tools.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
Prompt drafts and optional PromptIQ library searches are available for 30 days from their last saved timestamp. Expired entries are excluded from retrieval and physically removed on the next saved-activity read or write for your account. The latest revision of each draft is kept, not a permanent keystroke log. Use "Delete drafts & searches" in Dashboard > History to remove these account records and turn capture off. Turning prompt storage off locks the in-page optimizer until you enable it again. Infrastructure backups may persist within the provider's backup retention window.
Optimization history associated with your account is synchronized to our database. You can delete it by clicking the "Clear All" button in the History tab of the PromptIQ dashboard. This removes history locally and from the account's central records. Account, subscription, survey, and operational logs may be retained as needed to operate the service, handle billing, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations. You can request account deletion using the contact address below.
6. Policy Certifications
